Does the tic-tac-toe game ring a bell ?

Does the tic-tac-toe game ring a bell ? Why not make a life-size tic-tac-toe game and customize it to the image of dad and the whole family? This game will be perfect to entertain the family and to spend a great day together!

For those who have never heard of tic-tac-toe, it is a game table with 9 squares and players take turns placing their pieces to block the other player and get three pieces in a row. The three checkers can be aligned horizontally, vertically or diagonally. You can play several rounds and decide the winners. In order to get the whole family involved, you can organize a tournament, the first two players play with each other, the loser gets out of the game and the winner plays with another member of the family and so on until everyone can play.

How to create the perfect tic-tac-toe table for Father's Day ?

First of all, you will need a little bit of material! Don’t worry, you’ll easily find what you need to make a dream tic-tac-toe! Then, you’ll spend a little bit of time but it’s worth it.

Supplies :

-1 large wooden or cardboard board in a square shape

-Enough cardboard scraps for the number of people in the family

-1 large ruler

-1 pencil

-1 pair of scissors

-1 saw (if needed)

-Several brushes

-Different colors of paint

-1 nice gift paper

Time:

-The activity takes approximately 2 to 3 hours

-The drying time of the paint may vary depending on the brand used

Step 1: Cutting the wood or cardboard board

Great, you managed to find a large wooden or cardboard board, that’s perfect! If the board is already a perfect square, you can skip this step. If not, you’ll have to cut it down to make a square.

The perfect square is about 100cm x 100cm but you can cut it bigger or smaller if you want.

To cut it out, use a large ruler, a pair of scissors or a saw.

“Create with your kids, the best gift for Father’s Day!”

Step 2: Taking the measurements of the squares.

The tic-tac-toe table must have 9 squares, not in an anarchic order. It is very important that there are 3 columns of 3 squares each.

The size of the squares is also important, so make sure that they are all the same size. For example, if your tic-tac-toe table is 100cm x 100cm, the squares should measure 33.3cm x 33.3cm.

To draw the squares correctly, take your large ruler and pencil with you, this will allow you to make mistakes and start over if you have difficulty with this step.

Step 3 : Painting the game board

Once the squares have been marked out with a pencil, you can start painting the board. Ideally, the tic-tac-toe game should look like a colorful checkerboard.

We recommend you to leave the lines between the squares in black so they are visible and every other square is a different color. The goal is that any squares touching each other have the same color. It is best to use bright colors, such as light blue and red, orange or pink. If you are an artist and the children could not agree on the colors, you can create a multicolored board where each square has its own color.

Step 4: Creating customized checkers

Let’s move on to the creation of the counters, to create personalized counters you will need to use the cardboard. Draw the first letter of each family member’s name or an animal or object that represents them.

Then cut out the design and paint the first side, let it dry and then paint the second side.

You will need to create 5 counters per player.

Step 5: Gift wrapping

Once the counters and tray are dry, make sure to wrap this lovely gift with gift wrap. You can write a letter with your kids about how great dad is and slip it into the gift.

You can also accompany it with a box of chocolate for example!

And there you have it, a perfect gift that should make daddy happy on Father’s Day and keep you entertained all afternoon. Thanks to whom? The Fun Master of course!
